Wim Hof, a Dutch adventurer and daredevil, is a world record holder for some bizarre feats. One of those records is for standing fully immersed in ice for 1 hour and 52 minutes and 42 seconds. In February 2009 Hof reached the top of Mount Kilimanjaro wearing just shorts in two days. He also completed a full marathon 26.219 mi), above the polar circle in Finland, in temperatures close to −20 °C (−4 °F). Hof completed the run in 5 hours 25 minutes dress in nothing but shorts.

Snow

It is never too cold to snow but it is more unlikely that snow will fall when the temperature drops well into the negative numbers. The heaviest snowfalls occur between –4° C and 0° C. Below -33° C very little precipitation can be produced; ice crystals can form but rather than aggregating to form snowflakes, they remain very small and light. Often this means that they are held aloft by updrafts in the atmosphere. When they do fall to Earth we get the phenomenon ‘diamond dust’.
