So what is the difference between a cupcake and a muffin? Are they essentially the same thing? Is the only difference between a cupcake and a muffin frosting?
Well it seems not...it gets all scientific and technical.
"Cupcakes usually have icing on them and are supposed to be little, miniature cakes. They're for special occasions. Muffins are usually eaten at breakfast, don't have icing on them, and often contain fruit of some sort." (Source: The English Forum)
But it is not as simple as that...according to cakespy.com
"a cupcake is defined as "a small cake, the size of an individual portion, baked in a cup-shaped mold," whereas the muffin is defined as "a small, cup-shaped quick bread, often sweetened."
Personally I prefer this method as a way of determining the two:
"If you threw a cupcake against the wall, you would hear something of a "poof!" If you threw a muffin, you would hear a "thud!" (Source: The English Forum)
Such deep thoughts in the darker time of the year!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it more important, that they both may be tasty? If the answer is "yes",
i'd rather eat them (cupcakes as well as muffins) than throwing them against a wall! Unless it's for redecorating the room ...
You could also keep the paper moulds and make wallpaper out of those...since we're redecorating...
DeleteSo what are they then? Muffins I guess, because I dont see any icing. Have you had a party?
